This section is here simply to provide you with some hints and tips

  1. 24% of the teams who entered the competition in 2022 were Out of Time when booking back in after their walk.

  2. Make sure your footware is suitable for the challenge and is the correct size and comfortable ... you don't want blisters!

  3. Teams should try to establish a walking speed that is comfortable to all team members. As a suggestion 2.5 to 3Kph may be suitable for younger teams and up to 6 Kph for senior teams. Although it has been known that very determined teams will run, or jog, around their routes.

  4. On the map measure the distance between the Bases using footpaths, bridle paths etc. and then calculate the time it will take. Always checking that the Base will be open on arrival.

  5. The Organising Team do their best to keep the time on Base to a minimum, but as a rough guide allow around 5 minutes for a 30 point Base, around 10 minutes for a 60 point Base and 2 minutes for an unmanned Base

  6. If your team arrives at a Base and there is likely to be a longer delay consider taking the 5 or 10 arrival points and move on to the next planned Base. This is part of the ongoing decision making that a team should try to do throughout their planned walk. However, the team cannot go back to the Base later in the day. Refer to Rule 7. of The Trek Challenge rules.

  7. There is nearly always a kit check base.

  8. Learn how to tie a timber hitch knot – it might be useful!
