Welcome To The 2022 Trek Challenge.

Sunday 2nd October 2022

The Redditch TREKCHALLENGE is a full day orienteering competition run by the REDDITCH SCOUT ACTIVE SUPPORT on behalf of the REDDITCH DISTRICT SCOUT COUNCIL. The TREK has been running annually for 38 years, with 2022 being its 39th year.

The TrekChallenge is a combined hiking and activity competition with points being scored for arrival at a Base and further points awarded for the successful completion of the Base activity.

The Trek Challenge has up to 20 fixed Bases located around the Inkberrow area.  Teams of three (four in exceptional circumstances**) chose their own route to visit as many Bases as possible in a given time span and complete the Challenge for points with the aim of achieving the most points within their class.

Bases open and close at pre-determined times throughout the day.

The Trek Challenge is open to all members of the Scout and Guide Associations aged above ten and a half. Classes to suit all ages, please refer to the list below.

Creative design award at the discretion of the Trek Challenge Committee.

Walking distances range from a few Km's up to approx 35Km within a seven hour time frame.

Each team must have a team name for identification purposes. The team entry will be registered using the chosen name and cannot be changed once entered. The team name must NOT exceed 20 characters including spaces.

The Trek Challenge is a competition where pre planning and ongoing decision making on the day is very important.

Trek Challenge teams can choose their own start time (between 08.30hrs and 9.30hrs subject to availability) when filling in their team entry form. Actual team start times, a map with Bases marked on and a list of open/close times, will be emailed to successful applicants.

Pre-planning should include deciding on a team walking speed, choosing the Bases to visit, finding the best route from Base to Base (road, public footpath, bridleway etc.) and making sure that the Base can be reached when the base is open.

Please note that it is a Trek Challenge requirement to visit a minimum of 4 of the 6

Major Bases. These are numbered 1,2,3,4,5 and 6.

Ongoing Decision Making should include keeping to pre-planned timings, allowing for extra time on Bases if necessary, allowing for drifting off route or getting lost and if a Base happens to be extremely busy making the decision just to claim the 5 or 10 Base attendance points and not complete the Base task (Please refer to The Trek Challenge rules).

The Trek Challenge starts and finishes at the HQ at INKBERROW VILLAGE HALL, SANDS ROAD, INKBERROW, WORCS, WR7 4HJ.

For the 2022 Trek Challenge we will continue with a Virtual Prize Giving.  This allows us to have more flexible start times and avoid waiting around at the end of the day.

At booking in each team will be photographed (subject to consent) and winning teams will receive a photograph of themselves including a picture of the trophy they have won.

All trophies will be on display on Trek Challenge Day at the HQ.

All teams MUST end the Trek Challenge at HQ (Inkberrow Village Hall) and the team time stops when the full team has booked in

The entry fee for the 2022 Trek Challenge is £9.50 per person and light refreshments are available to purchase on return to the HQ, a TrekChallenge memento for every participant and photographs and certificates for winning teams. The reason for the increase in entry price this year is that following a successful trial of the GPS trackers last year we now intend to provide one to all teams. Unfortunately we do need to pass the cost of these onto the teams.

A full list of team placings and points scored will be available on our website as soon as possible after the event.

On return to HQ teams are free to leave for home subject to the team having made suitable transport arrangements.

** Four person teams are allowed in special circumstances by arrangement with the organising team but only three will be able to take part in Base activities. For less able team members who may find difficulty on parts of the course please contact us to make suitable arrangements using the enquiry form. Link to the enquiry form

When completing your team on line entry/fee payment form you will also have access to download the Parent/Guardian Consent/ Permission to Walk form, as well as the general enquiry form.

You must have the Parent/Guardian Consent/Permission to Walk form completed and signed ready to hand in on the day.
